Why Is The Green Deal In Place?

Householders produce extremely high rates of carbon emissions that amount to around 40% of the total emissions in the UK. Another group with comparable emissions are businesses in the UK. This means that people in the UK, whether businesses or householders must work very hard to make changes to lower greenhouse gasses and help our environment and address climate change problems.

This clearly highlights the issues that have led to the Green deal being activated, as businesses and households in the UK have to make a concentrated effort to become more energy efficient. Properties that have solid walls are the most difficult ones to improve in terms of energy efficiency. There are only around 17,500 households that have had some kind of insulation installed on the property.  There are still over £6.6 million to be done.

An Energy efficient UK means putting the Green Deal into practice

  • The statistics are quite shocking but plainly reflects why the Green Deal is needed as the energy efficiency at the moment in the UK is very poor.  Around £3 billion worth of our energy is basically wasted every year. The reasons for this are mostly down to poorly insulated properties and misuse of gas and electricity.
  • Prices for energy costs are continually going up and people struggle more and more to pay their bills. The new UK Green Deal initiative is about protecting our future energy resources. In addition this can open up doors for better employment opportunities. Workers such as those who insulate properties or those who make the products and technologies can also benefit. This is especially pertinent considering the recession and its consequences on UK business and small businesses.
  • Tenants in rented accommodation can also benefit from the Green Deal scheme. This is because landlords will have to make their tenancies more energy efficient. Other changes mean that landlords will have to comply with the new Energy Bill which says Landlords mustn’t offer rented accommodation that are cold and that are not energy efficient. These changes by the landlords have to have happened by the year 2016. Tenants will have rights to ensure that they have energy efficient homes and the Green Deal means that landlords will have to make the improvements by law.

In order for the Green Deal initiative to work effectively for customers in the UK and for them to take full advantage of it, proper planning and organisation must go be initiated.
