With an impossible target set from now on until 2050, one green retrofit will need to be undertaken every minute, otherwise the country will not hit its targets, according to the Centre for Low carbon Futures report, which was compiled in conjunction with the Energy Saving Trust.

Given that around 45% of emissions come from existing buildings, of which 70% will still be standing come 2050, there’s no escaping the fact that getting Britain’s buildings retrofit is of the utmost importance.

A breakthrough was made at climate talks in Durban, South Africa when the various nations negotiators came to agreement to initiate a new climate deal that would have full United Nations legal force and more importantly require both more developed countries and less developed countries to cut their carbon emissions. It will now take a further 4 years and must be agreed by 2015 and come into force in 2020. The last set of talks came into agreement early on Sunday morning after over 60 hours of negotiations.
