What Is The Green Deal?
The Government’s Green deal initiative is all about increasing energy efficiency in the UK by enabling householders and businesses to install energy saving technologies. These will reduce unnecessary wastage of gas and electricity. No advanced payments will be required and private companies will be permitted to provide UK properties with energy saving measures such as; cavity wall insulation, energy efficient boilers, improved double glazing and loft insulation.
Why Is The Green Deal In Place?
Unfortunately households and businesses all over the UK have extremely high carbon emissions, both totaling around 40%. Much of this is through wasted energy and because of energy inefficient properties. This all contributes negatively to climate change and in terms of wasted resources, fuel, and money.
When Does The Green Deal Come Into Effect?
The Green Deal requires that all properties become energy efficient, including private rented properties. The Green Deal technologies can be installed in homes, businesses and community buildings. Tenants will have the right to have energy efficient homes and landlords must start providing this after 2015 and have in place by 2016. Energy efficiency loans will be taken out to pay for these measures but the property owner does not pay this upfront instead it gets added on to the property’s meter.
